The ResponsiBee seal serves as a symbol of distinction and excellence, demonstrating that products bearing the seal have been sourced from farms that adhere to ResponsiBee's high standards for bee habitat improvement. Therefore, Hive Members must address one or more of the following concerns that jeopardize the pollinators upon whom we depend:
Loss of habitat
A safe environment must be provided for bees to live with a plentiful source of pollen and nectar provided throughout the growing season. Habitat may include permanent features or other temporary resources, including flower cover crops.
Disease
The unnatural movement of bees must be prevented. If using managed bees, only native species that are within their range should be used and restricted to protected, controlled environments to prevent the transfer of diseases to wild bees.
Pesticides
The use of harmful pesticides that cause illness in bees must be limited. A pest management strategy must be put in place that includes either using non-chemical practices first, targeting pesticide use, or minimizing or eliminating the use of high-risk pesticides.
Sustainable Beekeeping
Companies selling products derived from bees should never overharvest from their hives. Bees should only be fed with their own naturally-produced products. Apiaries must be eco-friendly and distant from harmful chemicals.
